Warwick, NY – The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan has recently partnered with Safe Space America to serve as their fiscal sponsor as this grassroots organization launches their efforts in Orange County.   Safe Space America’s goal is to ensure that members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) population feels safe within their communities. This will be accomplished through a marketing campaign to educate the public and put an end to the violence that members of the LGBT community have faced throughout history.  This will also include businesses and local government buildings placing stickers in their window to show that they are a safe haven for any individual facing discrimination.

Safe Space America sticker project has already begun locally in the Hudson Valley with the goal of taking it nationally during the next year. Danielle Barbour, Founder of Safe Space America says “No person should fight for safety alone.  We must stand together, the pain of fighting alone is not just physical but it is emotional.  I call on all to stand with me to combat prejudice of the LGBT population.”

Safe Space America is currently seeking volunteers across the country to help with the grassroots sticker campaign. The locations of these stickers will also be added to an interactive map on the Safe Space America website at www.safespaceamerica.org.
