The Kingfisher Project Fund

Date Established: December 15, 2020

The Kingfisher Project Fund will support the work of The Kingfisher Project, a community information project aimed at creating greater awareness and understanding of the heroin and opioid epidemic in Sullivan County and the surrounding area. The project was established in 2014 to honor the life of Rebecca Pisall, age 20, who was shot and killed on June 20, 2014, due to her addiction to heroin. The project is named for the injured bird Rebecca wrote about in a high school essay about the value of every life. The Fund will support an annual scholarship for a Sullivan West High School graduate who will pursue Environmental Studies or Substance Abuse. It will also support substance abuse awareness programs, rehabilitation services for those suffering from addiction, and critical needs for area homeless people struggling with substance abuse.
