The Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine-Middletown Campus opened in the former Horton Hospital building in July 2014 with 35 faculty and staff members and 135 medical students. This is the fifth medical school campus of the Touro College and University System, which includes medical schools in California, Nevada, Harlem, Westchester, and now in Middletown. As of December 17, 2014, all 135 first year medical students have successfully completed the first semester of school, and have done very well on their exams. In addition, the school had an accreditation inspection in November, which was very positive, with 3 commendations and no deficiencies. Although the Touro medical students come from all over the United States and Canada, they have been welcomed by the Middletown community and have become part of the city. Dr. Kenneth Steier, Dean of the medical school campus, is an experienced medical educator who is Board-Certified and Fellowship-Trained in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine.  Dean Steier stated “we are so pleased to be part of this vibrant community, and look forwards to producing the physicians that are needed to help address the healthcare needs of the families living here.”
