Three graduating seniors of Wallkill High School were awarded scholarships from the Lillian & Meyer Jacobowitz Scholarship, the Edward Edsall Scholarship, and the John D. Garrison Memorial Scholarship, charitable funds administered through the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.

The 2013 Lillian & Meyer Jacobowitz Scholarship recipient is:

  •  Hunter Krol – $150

Hunter Krol plans to pursue a degree in Accounting at Rider University in the fall. He was selected based on Wallkill High School faculty recommendations and overall academic achievement.

The Lillian & Meyer Jacobowitz Scholarship Fund was established by Gerald N. Jacobowitz, his wife Marlene, and his sister Joyce Concors. This fund provides scholarships to Valley Central and Wallkill High School graduating seniors.
The 2013 Edward Edsall Memorial Scholarship recipient is:
  • Jennifer Rutkowski – $250

Jennifer Rutkowski will attend Marist College and pursue a degree in biomedical science. Jennifer received several awards for academic achievement and participated on both varsity tennis and varsity ski teams.

The Edward Edsall Memorial Scholarship fund was created to honor the life and memory of Edward Edsall. He was a licensed pharmacist in the hamlet of Wallkill for many years and later was the head pharmacist and manager of the Thruway Pharmacy in Walden. He was active in many community activities and organizations during his distinguished career. He was a fine gentleman, soft spoken and well respected.

The 2013 John D. Garrison Memorial Scholarship recipient is:
  • Sarah Busse – $1,000
Sarah Busse will attend King’s College and pursue a degree in accounting. Sarah was a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Team, and the varsity Volleyball Team.
The John D. Garrison Memorial Scholarship Fund (Walden Savings Bank), which is administered by the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, was created by Walden Savings Bank in memory of John D.  Garrison, a past president of Walden Savings Bank, a fine community leader and businessperson whose goodness, kindness, and caring touched so many.
