The Sacred Place of My Ancestors (SPOMA) Fund will support the revitalization of the largest and earliest-know African American burial ground in Orange County, N.Y. The historic cemetery consists of 171 known gave markers on 0.46 acres along Route 416 in the Town of Montgomery. It was registered with the National Park Service in 1996. In addition to restoring and beautifying the cemetery and honoring the memory of those buried there, the fund will support educational workshops about and field trips to the site as well as raise awareness of the cemetery and its historic significance.
