Photographers for Hope Fund Established within the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan

Newburgh, NY – The Photographers for Hope project fund has been established within the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan. Photographers for Hope is a world-wide initiative led by photographers who believe in the power of images to support positive social change. The idea for the group was born out of the need for images of organizations committed to improving the lives of the poor and disenfranchised. These groups require strong photos to tell their stories and support their advocacy campaigns. Photographers have a common drive for compelling stories and opportunities to use their skills for good. What drives their passion and ambition is access to good stories, opportunities to work with interesting subjects and chances to make a difference with their work.

This project fund will create international public awareness of the rich history and positive aspects of Newburgh, NY through a photograph and documentary project adopted by world renowned photographer, and local Newburgh resident, David Burnett.  Together, with a team of international photographers, the Photographers for Hope project will culminate in a public exhibit in Newburgh on October 2015. “This photo project will tell stories often neglected by the media, the government, and even the community. These photos will bring to life stories of entrepreneurship, struggle, resilience, and it will give voice to a community that really believes it can change the trajectory of history. “Our hope is that these photos will inspire people to play a positive role in their own community,” said Anna Wang, Executive Director, of Photographers for Hope.
