Town of Montgomery Community Response Team and Cultivate Montgomery partner to support local seniors and families during coronavirus outbreak

Fund is accepting donations from public and is training volunteers to help with the effort.

MONTGOMERY, NY (March 23, 2020) – The Town of Montgomery Community Response Team is partnering with Cultivate Montgomery, a charitable fund of the Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan, to support senior citizens and families within the Town of Montgomery during the coronavirus outbreak. Funds raised will benefit a new program created to support local businesses while providing meals to seniors and families in need.

This program was inspired by a local Town of Montgomery business owner who offered to pay a local restaurant to deliver food to seniors who hadn’t eaten a hot meal in more than a week.

“The spirit of this selfless act has inspired the Montgomery Community Response Team to offer more individuals who have the ability to help with a way to do just that,” said Town of Montgomery Supervisor Brian Maher.

“We encourage those who can to donate or volunteer to help their neighbors with the greatest needs get through this crisis,” added Cultivate Montgomery Fund representative Jane Samuelson.

$13 thousand dollars has already been raised from donations including a $10 thousand donation from Amazon.

Donations of any amount are being accepted www.givegab.com/campaigns/town-of-montgomery-community-response-team.

Sponsorships for the Montgomery Community Response Team are also available at the following levels:
$125 – Bronze
$250 – Silver
$500 – Gold
$1000 and up – Platinum

Sponsors will be recognized on the fund’s GiveGab page.

Checks may also be written to CFOS/Cultivate Montgomery and mailed to 30 Scott’s Corners Drive, Suite 203, Montgomery, NY 12549.

If you are unable to donate at this time but would like to volunteer as part of the Community Response Team, please email mhurlburt@townofmontgomery.com or call 845-741-2835. Volunteers to make phone calls, deliver meals and much more will be needed in the days and weeks ahead.

An online donation drive will take place this evening at 6:30 p.m. to support this new collaborative program and help address other needs that arise in response to COVID-19.
