THE SHEILA BIRKETT GIFT OF LIFE SCHOLARSHIP FUND CREATED FOR

ELDRED CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT GRADUATING SENIORS

Sullivan County, NYThe Sheila Birkett Gift of Life Scholarship Fund was recently created within the Community Foundation to award scholarships to graduating seniors of the Eldred Central School District who plan to continue their education in a medical field. The fund was established in honor of Sheila Birkett, who donated her kidney to Joshua Glantz, a Social Studies teacher at Eldred High School.  “In my recent medical distress, I met many excellent and caring medical professionals.  I would like to honor Shelia’s gift, a gift that has allowed me to keep teaching and working with students, by helping our children pursue a medical career to assist others” says fund representative Joshua Glantz.

The Community Foundation manages charitable funds and handles all of the fiscal reporting and administration for each charitable fund under its umbrella, thereby keeping administration costs much lower than a private foundation, and allowing more dollars to flow toward grants and scholarships. “We are honored to administer this charitable fund in order to benefit graduating students of the Eldred Central School District who demonstrate the same kind of compassion that Sheila personifies,” said Karen VanHouten Minogue, President and CEO.

Contributions to The Sheila Birkett Gift of Life Scholarship Fund may be made to CFOS-The Sheila Birkett Gift of Life Scholarship Fund and sent to the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, 30 Scott’s Corners Drive, Suite 202, Montgomery, NY 12549.
