Forever Home Fund

Forever Home Foster House is a volunteer-based organization that gives animals in need of a home with a safe place to land as they seek loving permanent placement. Forever Home seeks to rewrite the stories of unwanted and abandoned animals in the Hudson Valley by providing the medical care, comfort, patience, and consistency they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Forever Home knows that making the world a better place for animals and the people who love them starts in your backyard. This idea serves as a guidepost for all of our work, as we specifically support animals and people in the local communities where we live, work, and play. We currently operate in Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan, and Rockland Counties. Since we began in September 2022, Forever Home’s founders have welcomed 72 animals into our personal home. We provide each one of them with love and care while seeking out their perfect forever home.

Part of caring about animals means caring about the humans who love them. We are proud to work alongside another local rescue to offer a free pet food pantry to help prevent surrender and keep animals in homes. We also dedicate ourselves to engaging in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) for stray community cats and offer educational training and a humane trap-lending program to community members. We proudly support local veterinary offices for every animal who walks through our doors, including Upstate Spay & Neuter, Hudson Valley Rescue and Sanctuary, The Animal Rights Alliance, and Newburgh Veterinary Hospital.

Here’s some information about Forever Home Foster House at a glance:

Who: Local stray and unwanted animals who have incredible potential to be lifelong companions but have never been given the opportunity to decompress, learn, grow, and shine. Community members in need of guidance and support.

What: Providing local kittens and cats in need with consistency, patience, routine, and real-life experience (aka living in a home, not a kennel, with people and other animals) necessary for them to succeed and thrive in the home environment. Getting medical care for every animal that walks through our doors, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and specialty medical treatment and surgeries as needed. Connecting owned dogs searching for new homes with foster homes (sometimes our own), resources, and/or support in the rehoming process. Supporting local pet-owners in need of support with free pet food to help prevent surrender and keep animals in homes. Giving resources and training to elevate TNR efforts.

Where: Right here in the Hudson Valley! To date, we have worked with animals and people in need across Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan, and Rockland Counties. Forever Home is a place where the strains that put pressure on shelter animals don’t exist. Bars, kennels, and time constraints do not exist at Forever Home.

Why: Because making the world a better place for animals and the people who love them starts in your backyard (the local community in which you live and work). Because shelters can only do so much with limited space and resources, and providing a place for stray animals to land takes some of the burden off of shelters and keeps animals safer. Because sending a stray animal directly to a forever home is asking a lot of them. Because giving animals the experiences that bring them comfort, structure, and consistency results in high rates of successful transition into a home.

How: Our ultimate goal is to change the experience of the animals in our care by creating a sanctuary for everyone, animals and people alike. We can only do this with help from people like you making financial contributions and donations of pet food and supplies, and we are so grateful for your consideration.

Long Term Dream: To create a physical space to host guests where everyone is welcome. We want supporters to come visit whether or not they are interested in adopting an animal! There isn’t the pressure of leaving with an animal when you come for a tour or a fundraising party. Even if you just need to come read a book for the afternoon with an adoptable animal… just by visiting, you are actively contributing to our work by the simple act of sharing space and time with the animals in our care.
