Community Foundation Awards $500 Scholarship to Eldred Central School District Graduating Senior

Christian D’Angelo, a graduating student of Eldred Central School District was awarded a $500 scholarship on June 28th from the Sheila Birkett Gift of Life Scholarship Fund, a charitable fund administered through the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.

Christian is interested in obtaining a career in the medical field and hopes to one day become a surgeon. He will use this scholarship towards a degree in Biology from SUNY Geneseo where he will be starting his freshman year this fall.

The Sheila Birkett Gift of Life Scholarship Fund was created within the Community Foundation to award scholarships to graduating seniors of the Eldred Central School District who plan to continue their education in a medical field. The fund was established in honor of Sheila Birkett, who donated her kidney to Joshua Glantz, a Social Studies teacher at Eldred High School.  “In my recent medical distress, I met many excellent and caring medical professionals.  I would like to honor Shelia’s gift, a gift that has allowed me to keep teaching and working with students, by helping our children pursue a medical career to assist others” says fund representative Joshua Glantz.
