Bauer Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the Winifred Dunwald Memorial Scholarship Fund, charitable funds administered through the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan

The Oscar B. Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2003 through a one million dollar bequest.  Oscar B. Greenleaf, originally from Otisville and later, Port Jervis, died at the age of 97 in 2003.  Greenleaf was an ordinary person of modest means with extraordinary goals.  He provided a one million dollar bequest to the Community Foundation and established a fund that has provided over $250,000 in scholarships since 2004.  Oscar B. Greenleaf gave so that others could learn.  His name and goodwill lives on forever because of his gift to the Community Foundation.

The 2014 Oscar B. Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship recipient is:

o   Alexander Smith in the amount of $20,000

Hon. Onofry, Tanner Sexton, Biz RowleyThe Lillian J. Bauer Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 through a $500,000 bequest from the estate of Lillian Bauer.  The Bauers were a very private, old-fashioned, hard-working family. Mrs. Bauer attended local schools in the Town of Deerpark. The Bauers were a product of the Depression: they worked hard, spent little, knew how to save, and accumulated a significant estate of which Port Jervis High School students will benefit forever.

The 2014 Lillian J. Bauer Memorial Scholarship recipients are:

  • Tanner Sexton in the amount of $10,000
  • MacKenzye Leroy in the amount of $5,000

The Winifred Dunwald Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Winifred Dunwald, a well-known teacher at Sparrowbush School through a bequest from her son, Joseph Dunwald’s estate, to create a lasting tribute to his mother.  Estate Attorney and fund representative Victoria Campbell, Esq. said “Joe was a Vietnam Veteran and a devout Catholic who cherished his family and friends and started all of his conversations with “Everything is okay.’” He was frequently seen around town visiting with friends and business owners.

The 2014 Winifred Dunwald Memorial Scholarship recipients are:

  • Tanner Sexton in the amount of $10,000
  • Robert Hayes in the amount of $10,000
