Scholarship Opportunities
The Community Foundation stewards a diverse portfolio of scholarship funds created by individuals, families, businesses, and organizations. Awards support high school seniors, current college students, career and technical learners, and adults returning to school. Scholarship amounts range from $250 to $25,000, with criteria that vary by fund—academics, leadership, community service, arts or athletics, financial need, resilience, and more. There’s truly an opportunity for nearly every hard-working student.
We’re honored to celebrate remarkable lives through many memorial scholarships. Students from every school district in Orange, Sullivan, and Rockland counties are eligible to apply for one or more awards. Scholarships are charitable grants (not loans) paid directly to the student’s school for educational costs such as tuition, fees, and books.

What to Prepare Before You Apply
To make the process as smooth as possible, gather these materials in advance:
- Most recent transcript – Official or unofficial copies are accepted.
- Letter(s) of recommendation – Some scholarships require one or more letters from teachers, coaches, employers, or community leaders.
- Personal statement or essay – A short essay describing your goals, interests, or what inspires you (required for certain awards).
- Résumé (optional) – Include school activities, community service, leadership roles, or employment.
- Financial information (if requested) – A copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) or FAFSA summary for scholarships that consider financial need.
Pro tip: Save your documents as PDFs before uploading them—it helps prevent upload errors and keeps your application looking sharp!
Tips for a Strong Application
- Start early. Don’t wait until the last week to begin your application—give your recommenders and yourself plenty of time.
- Follow directions carefully. Each scholarship may have unique requirements—read instructions fully before submitting.
- Proofread everything. Spelling, grammar, and tone matter. Treat it like a professional application.
- Show your passion. Be specific about your goals and how this scholarship will make a difference in your journey.
- Ask for feedback. Have a teacher, counselor, or trusted adult review your essay before you submit.
