Monticello Motor Club and Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine are the 2014 recipients of the David T. Cocks Award for Commitment to Community and will be honored at the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan’s 15th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Reception on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Anthony’s Pier 9.

Monticello Motor Club is North America’s premier automotive resort and private race track located in Monticello, NY. Since their establishment in 2008, Monticello Motor Club has distributed over $250,000 in grants to many Sullivan County nonprofit organizations, including Town of Wallkill Boys and Girls Club, Friends of Troop 101, New York State Sheriff Association Sheriff’s Camp, Robert J. Kaiser Middle School PTA and NYS Troopers PBA Signal 30 Fund, Inc. In addition to the their philanthropic support, Monticello Motor Club has been an economic development engine in the region, providing quality jobs to Sullivan County residents.  As the Monticello Motor Club continues to expand, opportunities for employment will continue to grow.  The Monticello Motor Club is also a destination for visitors outside Sullivan County, attracting more than 10,000 people each year which boosts the local economy.  Ari Straus, President and CEO of Monticello Motor Club stated, “Monticello Motor Club is humbled to receive this prestigious Award and share this honor with Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine has renovated over 100,000 square feet of the former Horton Hospital campus and will formally open the completely renovated medical school campus in Middletown in the fall of 2014.  Currently, Touro College has a New York City medical campus, and the expansion to the Hudson Valley has created a partnership with Orange Regional Medical Center, which will serve as the College’s main teaching affiliate.  This partnership gives Touro medical students the opportunity to complete their residency at New York’s newest, state-of-the-art medical center.   Over 6,000 applications for Touro College’s 2014 inaugural year at the Middletown campus have been received and 100 of the 135 total students have already been identified.  The Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine is one of two Osteopathic Colleges located in New York State and the Middletown Campus will be the first Osteopathic College campus outside of New York City or Long Island.    Dean Kenneth Steier, DO, MBA, MPH of Touro College stated, “We are grateful to the Community Foundation for this honor, and we are proud to be recognized with an Award given in the name of Mr. David T. Cocks, former president and CEO of Walden Savings Bank, who gave so much of himself to this community.”

 

About the David T. Cocks Award for Commitment to Community:

The David T. Cocks Award for Commitment to Community is given to an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to enrich the lives of others. The award is named in honor and memory of David T. Cocks who served the Community Foundation with distinction as Vice President for Finance from 2002-2011. On the evening of Father’s Day, June 19, 2011, David T. Cocks, President of Walden Savings Bank, and a beloved and respected member of our community, suffered a heart attack and passed away at the young age of 53.  David’s commitment to his community was enormous and the Community Foundation was the benefactor of his friendship and financial expertise.  The award is given in recognition of outstanding community service and leadership.
