The Bhag Mall & Leela Wanti Kumar Foundation, a component fund of the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, was established by Dr. Inder Kumar in honor and memory of his parents, Bhag Mall and Leela Wanti Kumar. Through the generosity of Dr. Kumar, a grant of $5,000 was given to the Hudson Valley Chapter of The Alzheimer’s Association in early 2016.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. It works on a national and local level to enhance care and support to all those affected by the disease, as well as other dementias. “Our chapter serves roughly 120,000 caregivers and 40,000 people with dementia right here in the Hudson Valley,” said Elaine Sproat, President & CEO. “This gift from The Bhag Mall & Leela Wanti Kumar Foundation will help us continue providing services that enhance quality of life for those affected by the disease.”  The Association is also the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research and is committed to accelerating the global progress of new treatments, preventions, and ultimately, a cure. “Generous gifts such as that of the Kumar Foundation not only provide resources that enable us to carry out our mission, but also encourage and inspire us to fulfill that mission,” said Sproat.

The Bhag Mall & Leela Wanti Kumar Foundation was created to provide grants, in perpetuity, to eligible charities or to students in the form of scholarships, as specified by the fund representative.
