Congratulations to fund reps John Smith, Sr. and Wilbur Higgins of the Anne F. Bourne Memorial Fund (administered by the Community Foundation) which allocated a grant for the purchase of a sound system and materials for the Mount Saint Mary College summer literacy program for children in preK through grade 5, held at the Newburgh Armory (Unity Center). The summer program led by Professor Janine Bixler and students in the Mount’s graduate education program concluded with presentations by the children on July 23 at the Unity Center.  Additional support provided scholarships to African American youth from Newburgh.  Also on hand to celebrate were Bill Kaplan, founder of the Unity Center, and Senator William J. Larkin, Jr.
