Community Foundation awards $4,200 in scholarships in Pine Bush

 Five graduating seniors of Pine Bush High School were awarded scholarships on May 30 from the Michelle R. Bratton Memorial Scholarship, the Isidore and Ethel Wittenberg Memorial Scholarship, the Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship, the Scott F. Coen Memorial Scholarship, and the John C. Smith Memorial Scholarship, charitable funds administered through the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.

The Michelle Renee Bratton Memorial Scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Michelle Renee Bratton, an Orange County resident with a promising future, who died on September 11th as a result of the World Trade Center attacks.

The 2013 Michelle R. Bratton Memorial Scholarship recipient is:

  • Kayla Brinckerhoff

Recipients of the Michelle R. Bratton Memorial Scholarship are selected based on academic achievement and future plans to attend a State University of New York four year college. Special consideration is given to individuals that participate on the women’s swimming or diving teams, and are members of the school chorus.

The Isidore and Ethel Wittenberg Memorial Scholarship was created by the family of Isidore “Stitch” and Ethel Wittenberg, to honor their memory, this fund provides an award to a graduating student athlete from Pine Bush High School who demonstrates civic duty and responsibility of the highest degree on and off the athletic field, and plan to attend college or vocational school full time.

The 2013 Isidore and Ethel Wittenberg Memorial Scholarship recipient is:

The Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship Fund was created by RJ Smith, an alumnus of Pine Bush High School and former President of the board of the Community Foundation, to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior of Pine Bush High School.

The 2013 Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship recipient is:

  • Morgan Alteio

Recipients of the Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship must be a Pine Bush High School senior in good standing with community service and school activity involvement.

The Scott F. Coen Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to celebrate the life of Scott F. Coen, who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident. This fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student from Pine Bush High School who is planning a two- or four-year college course of study in criminal justice and has participated in an athletic program at Pine Bush High School.

The 2013 Scott F. Coen Memorial Scholarship recipient is:

  • Matthew McCaffrey

Recipients of the Scott F. Coen Memorial Scholarship

are selected based on their future plans to study criminal justice at a two or four year institution and their involvement in school athletics.

The John Christopher Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by the family of John Christopher Smith, who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident, to celebrate John Christopher’s life and honor his memory. This fund is part of the Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship Fund. The fund awards a scholarship to a graduating student of Pine Bush High School.

The 2013 John Christopher Smith Memorial Scholarship recipient is:

  • Quinn Kelly

Recipients of the John Christopher Smith Memorial Scholarship are selected based on their future plans to attend a four year college or university to study civil engineering, land use planning, real estate, surveying, or business.
