Community Foundation Hosts Greenleaf Legacy Society Reception

IMG_3535Montgomery, NY – The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan held a reception at the Eagle’s Nest on May 28 for members and prospective members of the Foundation’s Greenleaf Legacy Society.

The event featured guest speaker Tom Rogerson, Managing Director and Family Wealth Strategist for Wilmington Trust, whose great grandfather founded The Boston Community Foundation in 1915.

The Greenleaf Legacy Society was established in 2002 when the Foundation received its first major donation – a bequest from the estate of Oscar B. Greenleaf. Mr. Greenleaf was an ordinary person with extraordinary goals. His goodwill lives on forever because of his gift to the Community Foundation to provide scholarships for graduating seniors of Port Jervis High School. To honor that caring legacy, the Community Foundation created the Greenleaf Legacy Society which recognizes those donors who have included the Foundation in their estate plans.

Anyone with a charitable interest can establish a fund within the Community Foundation. There are many ways to contribute resources, including valuable tax and estate planning strategies.

The Foundation has empowered donors to make a profound difference in the quality of life in our region with the creation of over 200 funds that will provide grants and scholarships forever! Since 1999, the Foundation has been an effective steward of the community’s charitable resources and has been a leader in the administration of scholarships, and grantmaking for the benefit of nonprofit organizations in Orange and Sullivan Counties, and beyond.
