The Irma Schwinger DeAngele Fund, a component charitable fund of the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, has awarded

a grant of $1,000 to the Officer John Falcone Memorial Fund in honor and memory of the slain City of Poughke

epsie police officer shot and killed in the line of duty in Poughkeepsie on February 18, 2011.

In the words of Fred Schwinger, who created the Irma Schwinger DeAngele Fund as a lasting legacy in honor of his mother, “The Irma Schwinger DeAngele Fund was established to forever celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, a German immigrant who settled in the Hudson Valley in 1950. Despite many personal trials, through hard work, determination, and selflessness she

always put her family, friends, and others foremost in her mind and in her actions. Her death on January 20, 2010 was not an ending but through this Fund, a continuance of her thoughtfulness for and generosity to others. My mother’s brother was a policeman and I thought this grant would be a

way to honor both my mother and Officer Falcone.”

“At the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, we manage charitable funds and handle the fiscal reporting and administration for each charitable fund under our umbrella, thereby keeping administration costs much lower than a private foundation, and allowing more dollars to
