Lazare and Charlotte Kaplan Foundation Announces Availability of Grants for Youth Initiatives in Livingston Manor

Fund established through a gift from renowned diamond merchant Lazare Kaplan supports community programs

MONTGOMERY, NY (August 31, 2023) – The Lazare and Charlotte Kaplan Foundation, a component fund of the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, is pleased to announce the availability of its 2023 grants. The grants are designated for charitable organizations, community programs/projects, and educational initiatives committed to the Foundation’s mission, “To get the kids off the streets of Livingston Manor.”

Organizations offering programs supporting education, arts and sciences, trades, afterschool activities, competitions, recreational facilities, and more, benefiting youth in Livingston Manor and/or its neighboring communities in the Town of Rockland are encouraged to apply.

“The Lazare and Charlotte Kaplan Foundation remains committed to fostering positive opportunities for young people in Sullivan County,” said Elizabeth Rowley, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan. “Organizations are encouraged to apply for grants that align with the Foundation’s mission to provide meaningful activities for youth in Livingston Manor and its neighboring communities.”

Renowned diamond merchant Lazare Kaplan established the Lazare and Charlotte Kaplan Foundation in 1965 with a clear vision to empower individuals and uplift communities. Since 2015, the Foundation has awarded over half a million dollars in student scholarships to graduates from the Livingston Manor and Roscoe Central Schools, while also providing vital financial assistance to nonprofit organizations and community projects that align with the foundation’s mission.

Grants starting at $250 will be awarded based on need and merit to organizations in Livingston Manor and the Town of Rockland whose projects or programs align with the foundation’s mission.

Applications must be submitted at Kaplan1965.org by October 31, 2023. Grant recipients will be announced in December.

Each grant application will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Alignment with the mission and priorities of the Lazare & Charlotte Kaplan Foundation.
• Effectiveness in addressing the funding priorities of the foundation.
• Applicant’s track record of implementing quality programs and availability of resources.
• Potential number of beneficiaries served and the long-term impact of the project.

All applications will undergo a thorough review by the Board of Directors of the Lazare & Charlotte Kaplan Foundation. The Board reserves the right to request additional information as needed.
