Newburgh Illuminated establishes fund with Community Foundation of Orange County

newburgh-illuminated-banner-bgNewburgh, NY – The Newburgh Illuminated Fund has been established within the Community Foundation of Orange County as a project fund to encourage donations and sponsorships for the 2014 Newburgh Illuminated Festival.  Newburgh Illuminated organized its inaugural festival in June 2013.  Events from the three-day festival in 2013 attracted over 3,500 participants to hear music, experience history, appreciate paintings and floral displays, take tours, sample crafts and food, and learn about the deep connections Newburgh has to the wider world.  Giant light bulbs painted in over 50 imaginative ways by local artists adorned the streets as the symbol for a city with so much to bring to light.

About Newburgh, and the 2014 Newburgh Illuminated Festival:

On June 20-22, 2014, Newburgh Illuminated organizers will host the 2014 Newburgh Illuminated Festival – a festival of arts, heritage and music – designed to celebrate the rich history of the City of Newburgh.

Newburgh holds a special place in American history as a city of innovation and invention. It was one of the earliest American cities to be electrified when Edison built its power plant and wired it up in 1884. In 1939, RCA test marketed televisions in Newburgh.  That spirit continues, and the Newburgh Illuminated Festival celebrates the rich history and tradition, while highlighting the passion, innovation and excitement of the current day.

The theme for Newburgh Illuminated 2014 is “Made in Newburgh.”  There are many opportunities for individuals, groups and businesses to participate.  For a downloadable program proposal form, or to register for The Lightbulb Project, visit www.newburghilluminated.org.

Partners for the 2014 Newburgh Illuminated Festival to date include: City of Newburgh, Community Foundation of Orange County, Safe Harbors of the Hudson (Ritz Theatre, Ann Street Gallery, The Cornerstone Residence), St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, and The Greater Newburgh Partnership.  Also partnering are the Downing Park Planning Committee, Newburgh Professional & Business Association, Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, Motorcyclepedia Museum and the Purple Heart Museum, Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, Newburgh Rowing Club & Crew Team, Newburgh Armory Unity Center, Newburgh Actors Studio, Mount Saint Mary College, Gomez Mill House, Newburgh Enlarged City School District, Newburgh Free Library, Newburgh Heritage Center, Heights Association, Heights Lumber, Newburgh Illuminated Community Action Team.
