The Orange County Pilots Association has recently raised over $1,000 for the Jane Unhjem Memorial Scholarship Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan. The Orange County Pilots Association is an association of aviation enthusiasts with the purpose of promoting Aviation at the Orange County Airport. The Association strives to inform and educate their members, partner with local charities to raise funds for worthy causes and promote the acceptance and importance of general aviation and Orange County Airport. Mike Monaco, Treasurer of the Orange County Pilots Association, lead the efforts of raising these funds in honor and memory of Jane Unhjem.
Jane Unhjem was a vibrant educator, wife, mother, daughter, and esteemed community leader who passed away on August 19, 2012 from injuries sustained in the crash of a small airplane. The fund was established by her loving husband and college sweetheart, Erik, to honor Jane’s love of life, infectious energy, belief in the power of education, passion for the work of the Goshen Rotary Club and its international exchange program for students from around the world, as well as her passionate advocacy for the music and arts programs as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Goshen Central School District.
This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior selected by Goshen Rotary Club for its Rotary Youth Exchange program. In years when the Club does not have a candidate, the scholarship will be awarded to a Goshen High School graduating senior who has been active in the Goshen High School music program and is recommended by the Goshen High School music teachers for the award.
