Pine Bush High School Graduating Senior Receives $2,500 Scholarship

Pine Bush, NYSamantha Smith, a graduating student of Pine Bush High School was awarded a $2,500 scholarship on May 28th from the Michelle Renee Bratton Memorial Scholarship Fund, a charitable fund administered through the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.

Samantha will be attending SUNY New Paltz in the fall of 2015 as an Early Childhood Development major and hopes to one day become a teacher. Samantha has chosen to pursue a career in education as she believes that those whom endeavor to improve society by helping others in the pursuit of their dreams is the most honorable of professions.

The Michelle Renee Bratton Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Bratton family through the Community Foundation to aid a Pine Bush High School graduate who continues her education.  The scholarship is given in memory of Michelle Bratton, an Orange County resident with a promising future, who died on September 11th as a result of the World Trade Center tragedy.

The scholarship is awarded each year to a young woman graduating from Pine Bush High School.  The Recipient must be enrolled in a State University of New York, (S.U.N.Y.) four year college or university who, like Michelle, is a member of the National Honor Society and either an athlete on the women’s swimming and diving team or a member of the chorus.
