Monticello, NYThe Robert Van Etten, Jr. Fund was recently established within the Community Foundation to support one male and one female student in their freshman, sophomore or junior year at Monticello High School who are selected to attend Lake Placid Soccer Centre Camp at St. Lawrence University or an alternate summer soccer camp.

The fund was established in memory of Robert Van Etten. Jr., a scholar athlete at Monticello High School and a beloved member of his community.  The quality education that Rob received at Monticello enabled him to continue his studies and graduate from St. Lawrence University, where he also played soccer and skied.  In sports, his effort and commitment were as strong in team practice as they were in competition.  He had a particular love for soccer and spent many hours coaching the youth in the Sullivan County community adding his expertise, humor, and wit to all those he coached.  Rob’s integrity was apparent in his personal life as he worked to keep fit and healthy, and make positive contributions in the lives of people he knew.  He was upbeat and positive; a person who perpetually looked at the glass as being half full.

Students interested in receiving an award towards attending summer soccer camp should inquire with the Men’s or Women’s Soccer Coach for guidelines and an application.  The Community Foundation manages charitable funds and handles all of the fiscal reporting and administration for each charitable fund under its umbrella, thereby keeping administration costs much lower than a private foundation, and allowing more dollars to flow toward grants and scholarships. “We are honored to administer this charitable fund in order to benefit student athletes in the Monticello School District,” said Karen VanHouten Minogue, President and CEO.

Contributions to The Robert Van Etten, Jr. Fund may be made to CFOS-The Robert Van Etten, Jr. Fund and sent to the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, 30 Scott’s Corners Drive, Suite 202, Montgomery, NY 12549.
