OPERATION FEED 3.0

OPERATION FEED 3.0 is an initiative of the Liberty NY Rotary Club to provide meals to Garnet Health Regional Hospital – Catskills (GHMC-Catskills) – and Sullivan County Public Health Staffs who are working extra shifts to staff Covid-19 immunization clinics, and to renew our support for our local restaurants in this endlessly difficult time for them.

The Covid-19 Pandemic has disrupted and affected individuals, businesses and organizations. Our local hospital has been providing exceptional health care, not only for those who have been affected by the pandemic but also for anyone who comes to their facility with an illness or injury. Now they are one of just a few sites in Sullivan County that will be delivering vaccinations for Covid-19. The hospital’s plan for staffing the vaccination clinics is to add an extra eight hour shift onto staff members’ regular full time assignments. Given the demand for vaccinations, the staff will work through their lunch hour in order to vaccinate as many residents as possible. Consequently, to support this effort by hospital staff to maximize the efficiency of the vaccination program, we would like to return to our Operation Feed Phase 1 model and provide “grab-and-go” lunches for these staff members. In addition, we will be able to support our local restaurants as we did last Spring by ordering food from them and delivering the meals to GHMC-Catskills and Sullivan County Public Health for the workers and staff.  In this way, the Liberty NY Rotary Club will be able to support the vaccination program – a crucial step in returning to “normal,” getting kids back into school, and improving our economy – support the CRMC staff, and support our local restaurants. We expect that all funds raised will be returned to our local economy.

Donations are needed to Fund Operation Feed 3.0.   Because our volunteers donate all of their time and efforts, one hundred percent of all contributions will support the purchase of meals for the essential workers at the Covid-19 Vaccination Clinics.

Liberty Rotary Seeking Help For Hurricane Eta & Iota Victims

There is an immediate need for supplies to get to families affected by Hurricanes Eta and Iota in Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. Representatives from the Liberty NY Rotary Club, Operation Endeavor, the Belize Sunrise Rotary Club and The Belize Rotary Club met on zoom recently as a result of being contacted by the Executive Director of the Belize Emergency Response Team requesting disaster relief assistance. We have been able to identify needs as described by those with boots on the ground in Belize. Those needs include DONATIONS to purchase food, hygiene and domestic supplies for hurricane-stricken families as wells as to provide disaster preparedness and basic first aid training necessary to educate stakeholders and build resilience for future disasters.

Puerto Rico (PR) Disaster Relief

On January 7 there was an earthquake, magnitude 6.4 followed by another 6.0 tremor, which impacted the southwest coast of Puerto Rico. As a result, a number of houses collapsed and buildings and other structures have been structurally compromised. Currently there are 30-40 seismic activities every day in the southwest coast of the island. ranging from 2.4 – 5.4 in intensity.  Many people are living in fear as the ground shakes daily.  Some are afraid to sleep in their homes fearing that the next earthquake could be catastrophic. The situation is causing economic, social and emotional issues for a number of the people in those communities.

After Hurricane Maria, the Liberty, NY Rotary Club developed a network of Rotarians from Puerto Rico, Massachusetts and New York to provide assistance to the Moca, Puerto Rico, area which was devastated by the hurricane, and together we are working with the leadership Puerto Rico’s District 7000 to respond to this latest crisis.

Through the Liberty NY Rotary Club Foundation Fund at CFOS, donations are being  securely collected and distributed directly to assist the people of Puerto Rico during this frightening time. Please consider donating to our fellow citizens, brothers and sisters – no donation is too large or too small – through one of the options below.
