Lake Association of White Lake, NY Fund

Date Established: November 21, 2022

In 2022, a group of interested homeowners met and decided to form a lake association to address some concerns, including the proliferation of invasive weeds, the effects from the growing number of geese and weeds on water quality and the lake’s recreational appeal. Thus, the Lake Association of White Lake, NY (“Association”) was born. Our mission: To become a single, organized voice to more fully represent our community through coordination with local, state and federal officials on matters related to the health and welfare of White Lake. In addition, the Lake Association acts as a mechanism to raise and deploy funds to support the monitoring of water quality and projects designed to maintain or improve the quality of the White Lake ecosystem.

What are some of our key initiatives since our founding?

  • Member of the New York State Federation of Lake Associations (NYSFOLA):  link here.
  • Participate in the Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP). As of Summer 2023, five White Lake residents were trained to conduct testing of the water quality of our lake. Since 2023, our trained volunteers spend several hours each Sunday collecting water samples for CSLAP analysis. Learn more here.
  • Collaborate with the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP) on invasive species management priorities.  Learn more here.
  • In partnership with the Town of Bethel, established a Critical Environmental Area (CEA) for the White Lake and Mountain Lake Watersheds. The first in Sullivan County! CEAs are adopted by municipal legislative bodies and registered with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). The designation will raise awareness about the area’s important features and is a huge step forward in our efforts to maintain the health and vitality of White Lake and other lakes in the region.
